In 2012, my family and I received generous sponsorship from the compassionate community at Cloverdale Canadian Reformed Church upon our arrival from Namibia, Africa. Among the remarkable individuals was Stan, a man in a wheelchair, who, every Sunday, sincerely inquired about my faith. Despite my attempts to project assurance, I often concealed inner struggles.
During one encounter, Stan, recognizing a need, invited me to a restaurant, persistently seeking ways to contribute to my life. Succumbing to his insistence, I revealed my aspiration to plant a church, expressing uncertainty about how to begin. Stan responded with remarkable generosity.
Subsequently, my wife located a modest space on King George Blvd for our church. Stan covered the rent for three months and provided essential equipment, emphasizing reliance on the Lord rather than himself for ongoing support.
Although initially daunting, with questions about sustaining rent payments, we pressed forward. God's faithfulness has been evident, sustaining us to this day. In 2017, on March 3rd, my family, Ev. Placide, and I officially launched the church, a testament to the unwavering support of individuals like Stan and the enduring grace of God. The attached picture captures the essence of our journey, marked by faith, community, and the fulfillment of a shared vision.
Reflecting on our humble beginnings, I am reminded of the wisdom in Ecclesiastes 3:11 - "He has made everything beautiful in its time." Our small start has blossomed into a testament to God's faithfulness.
